M.A.D Community Choir
18 years ago Sonia Scott (pictured right) along with Maureen Vincent (pictured left) had a vision to spread the love of God through Music and Drama. What began and grew as a children’s ministry, has in recent years developed into a community choir being led by Sonia, Maureen, and Evelyn Lodge (pictured center) who is a leader on the Aglow International North East Area Team. No-one (but God!) knew how this would turn out and could never have envisaged the outcome…
The 30 strong choir have had 5 public performances to date and are now heading into “The big one”.
On 7th October 2015 they are on target to fill over 600 seats in Newton Aycliffe to raise funds for Macmillan and Cancer Research. There are people from all walks of life in the choir many with health and mental health issues; some have come to us through a doctor’s referral scheme. Some have been reclusive for many years and one gentleman is blind.
The bond that the MAD family have is Making A Difference in the lives of each and every person who is a member. There is camaraderie like no other!
This, although delightful is only the beginning of the story. Sonia and Maureen are now Aglow ladies who are helping pioneer a new group in Newton Aycliffe serving the surrounding areas along with fellow members Cheryl and Vicky. The past 2 months have been an answer to prayer when in June, two MAD Choir members came along to Aglow for the first time and then the following Sunday went to church and made a commitment to God. In August, another choir member came along to Aglow for the first time and followed suit by going to church for the first time on Sunday morning with her husband, who is also in the choir.
We are believing this is the beginning of what has been 18 years of sowing, bearing fruit. Aglow International Newton Aycliffe had 14 attendees in July this year, 11 of whom were MAD choir members. Now we can indeed say we are Making A Difference!
Evelyn says “I was brought to tears on Sunday morning when I looked along the row in Church to see that we had filled a whole row. Praise the Lord.”
As the North East Area Board embark upon their first “Men of Issachar” meeting in November, at least two of the MAD Choir guys will be there. How awesome is that!
“As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.”
